HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN ?

Well it all began a little more than two decades ago, back in Dublin, Ireland, at Mount Temple to be exact. One boy (Larry Mullen Jr.) wanted to start a band, so he decided to put a note up at school, asking if anybody was interested in starting a band after school.

Other boys were indeed interested, of course including Dave and Dick Evans (Edge's older brother), Adam Clayton and Paul Hewson. All of them claimed that they could play, but when it came down to business nobody had a clue. They tried to play what other bands had made, but with no further success, so they decided to write and play their own stuff.

Paul Hewson became the lead singer, because he wasn't that good at playing on instruments and well nobody really wanted to sing, Adam Clayton played Bass-Guitar, because he owned one. The Evans brothers played on a home-made Electric Guitar, until the younger group members convinced Dick to move on, so he left the band and there were only four left.

But you cannot play in a band without a name, so first they called themselves "FEEDBACK", but that name didn't do them any good, so a friend asked them why they didn't call themselves "U2", so they did and it must have worked, because till this day they are still around.
Speaking of names, some of the band members got new names too. Paul Hewson became "Bonovox" after a hearing-aid store, eventually they shortened it to "Bono" which is what he's still called. Dave Evans became "The Edge" because Bono thought it matched the shape of his head or because he was extremely smart. The other two kept their own names, and I can't really imagine them be called anything else.

After a couple of years of playing together, some of the band-members were determined to become a big band and go on tour, not to mention making an album. So they started to send demos out to different record-companies, with no luck, until one man names "Paul McGuinness", was close to forced to come and hear the band play, so he did and became their manager and still is. The band played a "few" gigs, before they in 1979 released their first single "U2-Three" and the year after in 1980 released their first album "BOY", but It wasn't until 1983 they got their first real break when their album "WAR" reached No. 1 in the charts.

Even though there have been some confusions among them to whether they should continue to play or split up, U2 never did and until this day they are one of the most respectable bands around. They do everything they can to make people aware of the fact that the world we live in, is far from perfect. They take part in charities and world wide organisations such as "GREENPEACE" and "Amnesty INTERNATIONAL".

The most resent album they have made is "POP" which was released in 1997 and the tour "Pop Mart Tour", followed pretty much at the same time. It was "the biggest, badest tour" of the Century, with a huge stage, a huge screen, a huge Lemon and major egos, "What the H... was that all about ?, I still can't figure that out."

So far U2 has released 13 albums including "Live at redrocks" and "Wide awake in America", well 13 including "Passengers/Orignial Soundtracks 1" and numerous singles (see my section albums/singles to see that they have released). All that you can't leave behind was released in October 2000, and it is said that it is their best album so far (you make your own conclusion).

The Elevation tour kicked off in March and even though it seems like a lot of fans will have to miss out on the show because of it's limited seats and scalpers, it has got good reviews this far.
